$500,000 Controversy at Washoe County School District
Trustee Jeff Church has released a public statement after the Washoe County School District updated the board agenda late Friday night with him being an item, despite the agenda originally being posted on Thursday. At contention is a possible censure of Church along with an insane request by WCSD’s Chief General Counsel Neil Rombardo for $500,000 to hire an outside law firm to fight lawsuits by Church. In Church’s statement his issue is the district’s refusal to release public records especially in regards to accusations he believes are coming from fellow trustees who aren’t aligned with him politically.
In a recent allegation, Church says he was accused of sexual harassment towards two unidentified WCSD employees. He released the following screenshot he claims disproves the allegations since he was never in the parking lot with the accusers, but inside on camera going over paperwork. He denies the allegations, says they are politically motivated because he’s running for re-election, and wants the accusers investigated.
Even more insane is that the $500,000 Romnardo wants to fight Trustee Church (one of his own bosses) would have to come out of directly out of the budget that pays for school programs for students and employee salaries. A censure of Church isn’t explicitly stated on the agenda, however in a note from Rombardo to Church, its stated trustees will consider his “character, possible misconduct, professional competence or physical or mental health.”
Jeff Church is a retired Reno Police Sergeant and United States Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel. In 2020 he was elected to the WCSD board of trustees to represent District A, the area east of the airport and south to Carson City, by a 19 percentage point margin. He is asking supporters to attend the meeting and give public input at 2pm on Tuesday March 12 at 425 E. Ninth St in Reno. #reno #washoecounty #nevada #775 #education
