Reno Police Released Bodycam Footage of Officer Involved Shooting at Hospital
On February 9, Sparks Police called backup to sought assistance from the Reno PD regarding suspect Kupa’a Ke’a, who was wanted for severe battery of a woman with a gun that same morning, placing her in the hospital.
Ke’a was believed to be armed and homicidal/suicidal according to RPD. When officers located him at 9th and Montello streets, but he fled creating a high speed pursuit. Footage shows him putting multiple people at risk while running through red lights until arriving at the Renown emergency room parking lot. Ke’a continued to drive erratically until being cutoff by police.
Officers then exited their vehicle, commanding Ke’a to raise his hands or be bitten by a police K9 or be shot. At that point Police say reached for a handgun and officers fired over a dozen shots at him.
Footage then shows officers recover a loaded Glock 17 handgun with a 30-round magazine they say was in Ke’a’s hand. He was then pulled out from the driver’s side of the car and rushed into the hospital where he died six days later.
Per protocol the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. The findings then get forwarded to the Washoe County District Attorney’s office for review. #reno #nevada
