Local Officials Crackdown on Predators

“A multi-agency operation, “Operation Safe Washoe,” recently concluded, focusing on conducting compliance checks on registered sex offenders residing within Washoe County. The operation, a collaborative effort between the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Notification Unit, Nevada Parole, and Probation Sex Offender Unit, and the U.S. Marshals Nevada Violent Offender Task Force, resulted in 410 compliance checks, 25 arrests, and the identification of 41 non-compliant offenders.
The arrests included the following charges:
-3 counts of Failure to Obey Sex Offender Registration Laws
-1 count of Indecent Exposure 2nd offense
-24 counts of Parole and Probation Violations
-2 Warrant Arrests for Sex Crimes
The primary objective of Operation Safe Washoe was to ensure registered sex offenders are adhering to their registration requirements as set forth in Nevada Revised Statutes. Teams conducted unannounced visits to verify addresses, vehicles, employment, confirm compliance with any restrictions, and address any potential violations.
