Mar 16, 2025 — by 775TimesTeam in 775Times, Articles
🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨
Per WCSO:
“The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call and demand money for warrants, fines, or missed jury duty.
Here are a few red flags to watch for:
❌Urgent pressure to act immediately or keep the call secret.
❌Use of real names—scammers may use actual deputy names, but a legitimate deputy can always provide a verifiable name and badge number. Call us directly to verify.
❌Fake phone numbers—The official Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Non-Emergency Line is 775-785-9276. Scammers can spoof caller ID to make it look like they’re calling from a real number—always verify by calling us directly.
📞 What to Do If You Get a Scam Call:
✅Hang up immediately and block the number.
✅Do NOT share personal information.
✅If you need assistance, call our Non-Emergency Line at 775-785-9276.
Reporting a Scam Call:
🔹No financial loss? Report it to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
🔹Lost money? Contact us immediately.
Stay alert, Stay Safe Washoe!
