Therapy Dogs For Inmates 🐶 Per WCSO: 🐾 This past Friday, @paws4lovereno brought their certified therapy dogs to our Jail-Based Mental Health Unit (JBMHU) at the Washoe County Detention Facility, offering comfort and companionship to those housed there. Studies show that simply petting an animal can help lower blood pressure, reduce heart rate, and ease anxiety and depression. These friendly visits also play a crucial role in treatment and recovery by relieving feelings of loneliness and isolation. By introducing therapy dogs into this environment, we’re providing an extra layer of support—helping individuals focus on their treatment and work toward competency for their trial.
