National Retro Day, RENO
We’re celebrating National Retro Day with a look back at all of the Reno Arches that have graced our cityscape!
The original Reno Arch was constructed in 1926 to commemorate the completion of the Lincoln and Victory Highways, which were among the first transcontinental highways in the United States. The City of Reno wanted to celebrate this milestone and attract travelers passing through the area. The arch, designed in a classic style, was adorned with neon lights to capture the spirit of the era.
In the 1930s, the arch was updated with more modern lighting, and in 1963, the original arch was replaced with a new design, which was taller and featured a more contemporary look. This new arch continued to serve as a symbol of Reno’s vibrancy and growth.
The current version of the Reno Arch was installed in 1987 as part of a downtown revitalization effort. This iteration of the arch was designed to echo the style of the original 1926 arch while incorporating modern engineering and technology. The new design retained the beloved slogan and the iconic neon lights, which have become synonymous with #Reno. #nevada #retro
