Aerial Seeding Over Washoe Valley: Restoring the Davis Fire Burn Scar 🚁

Did you see our helicopter flying over Washoe Valley this week?🌲 🚁
It helped re-seed the burn scar left by the Davis Fire.
“The Davis Fire burned nearly 6,000 acres of forest, shrubland, and riparian areas in September of 2024. While nature is resilient, it sometimes needs a little help. Aerial seeding is an effective way to quickly cover large areas with native seed, helping the landscape recover. In addition, re-seeding after wildfires reduces erosion and helps keep invasive species in check.
This project is a collaboration between the Nevada Division of Forestry, Nevada Department of Wildlife, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, the U.S. Forest Service-Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, and Bureau of Land Management - Nevada. It’s funded through Nevada’s Shared Stewardship Agreement, a state-federal partnership that helps manage risk, share resources, and implement projects that improve landscape resilience in highly vulnerable areas of our state.
Seeding continues today, weather permitting.“ 🌱
