Man Arrested After DUI Through Sparks
On 2/18/2024 at about 2:00 p.m. a Sparks officer was conducting business in the city of Reno found himself behind a vehicle with a stolen license plate. Prior to initiating a traffic stop on the vehicle, it fled from him at a high rate of speed and drove recklessly weaving through traffic and escaped.
Then at about 4:07 p.m. Sparks Police received a call about a possible DUI at a gas station. The license plate and description of the vehicle matched the vehicle from the previously mentioned incident. Prior to officers arriving in the area the reporting party said the vehicle left the gas station and was driving north on Vista Blvd. The reporting party said the driver and other occupants of the vehicle were drinking alcohol inside the vehicle while pumping gas.
An officer located the vehicle near Vista Blvd. and Baring Blvd. The vehicle again fled at a high rate of speed, going through numerous stop signs, red lights and almost hit several vehicles. Officers terminated the pursuit of the vehicle. The vehicle was occupied by five people.
Sparks communication continued to get reports of the vehicle as it traveled through the city, still at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was observed by other officers driving recklessly putting the public at risk as the vehicle traveled northbound Pyramid Hwy.
As the vehicle continued to drive erratically, it hit another vehicle at the intersection of Pyramid Hwy and Sparks Blvd but continued to travel northbound. The vehicle lost the front left tire but continued to drive. Then the vehicle became disabled in a neighborhood east of Pyramid Hwy. Officers arrived in the area as witnesses watched the five occupants fleeing from the vehicle in separate directions. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and after a brief time took all five subjects into custody, without further incident.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of this incident. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 19 ye old Reno resident, Devin Lake. #reno #sparks
