Guatemala Man Here Illegally, Sentenced in Vegas Strip Stabbing Spree
Yoni Barrios, 35, was sentenced to life in prison for killing two people and stabbing six others in an unprovoked mass stabbing attack on outside of the Wynn Hotel during a stabbing spree on the Las Vegas Strip.
The attack occurred on Oct. 6, 2022, after Barrios asked a group of sidewalk showgirls to take a photo with him and a long kitchen knife. He then stabbed one of the girls in the chest and ran off stabbing other strangers until being apprehended by security guards and police.
Both, Brent Hallett, 47; and Maris DiGiovanni, 30, died in the attack. The sentence comes as plea deal Barrios took to save his own life. He agreed to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole in exchange for a guilty plea, but “mentally ill” to terrorism and murder charges. As a result the District Attorney dropped the death penalty.
Barrios was reportedly at the Wynn that day trying to get a job as a janitor. According to court documents he even asked a janitor there to contact U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, aka ICE, to report him so he could be returned to Guatemala. Now he gets to live in Nevada for the rest of his life. #nevada
