Sparks High Mourns Loss of Photography Teacher in Reno Tragedy

Sparks High principal CJ Waddell released the following message to families regarding Sparks High School photography teacher Carla Gonzales. She was killed by her 20 year old son,Carson, at home on Monday on the 2600 block of Powder Dr in Reno. Her friend was also brutally attacked. He was arrested and is being charged with homicide. Video shows the police presence after the attack.
“This is Principal CJ Waddell. I am calling with a heavy heart to inform you of the death of one of our staff members. We will be working to support students, staff and families during this difficult time as the investigation continues.
The Washoe County School District is committed to helping our students, staff, and families cope with grief and loss. Sparks High counselors, our mental health professional and school psychologist have been assisting students and staff today and will be readily available to provide continued support to our staff and students as needed. We have also had support from district counseling and mental health professionals.
It is possible that your students may have some feelings and questions that they may like to discuss. You can help them by taking time to listen and by encouraging them to express their feelings. We recognize everyone is different and will express their feelings in multiple ways. We encourage you to access available resources and contact information listed on the email Blackboard message.
