Police Launch Sideshow Task Force
On Wednesday morning, representatives from Washoe County, Reno, and Sparks convened a press conference at the Reno Police Department to discuss their latest initiatives aimed at deterring community participation in illegal street racing and sideshows.
Law enforcement officials are taking a multi-faceted approach to crackdown on such activities, not only by collaborating to mount a strong region-wide response to any instances of illegal street racing or sideshows, but also by enacting legislation.
In April, the Sparks City Council voted to criminalize the mere act of observing a street race or sideshow. In a similar vein, both the Reno City Council and Washoe County Commissioners recently discussed the possibility of implementing an analogous ordinance to the one adopted by Sparks.
Authorities indicate that the implementation of more rigorous laws and the prosecution of offenders by county district attorneys are all actions that will ultimately benefit Northern Nevada communities. These measures are being announced in anticipation of the summer months, which typically see an uptick in the occurrence of these illicit gatherings. #reno #sparks #washoecounty #nevada 🎥 @775cameraman
