During the last board meeting on April 9th, Trustees Jeff Church took to the microphone to address accusations against him by fellow trustees. Church used public comments instead of speaking from the dais to avoid issues of previous interactions board president Beth Smith. Bizarrely, Beth “welcomed” Jeff Churh to speak as if he wasn’t sitting on the fair with her all evening. 😂
The point contention continues as Church’s fellow trustees have ganged up on him, voting last month to spend big money to investigate him, while also voting not to investigate themselves. Church publicly stated last month and again that accusations made against him of sexual harassment towards two women are politically motivated and led by Beth Smith herself. Church is stating that there is a whistleblower who works for Washoe County School District that can attest to Smith conspiring with the two women in question to fabricate the allegations. In part of his defense, Church has maintained that it was impossible for him to have made sexually inappropriate comments towards the women in the parking lot because he was inside the meeting chambers at the time, which he has shown a video of.
We reached out to Church for a statement and he says he is being targeted because he is the only conservative person on the board and does not blindly go along with the group just to get along. He is also using for re-election this year and believes the false allegations are politically motivated to keep him from remaining on the board of trustees.
He has also released a 38 page pdf presentation disputing all of the accusations against him.
Public schools in Reno used to be ranked among the highest in the nation and now they are among the lowest. Do you think the board of trustees under the leadership of Beth is serving the best interests of students and the community?
