50 Students Fighting Prompts Lockdown of 2 Schools
A reported fight involving 50 minors at Golden Valley Park prompted two schools to be put on lockdown today.
The melee reportedly broke out around 11:30 a.m. with a shot being fired into the ground according to the Washoe Sheriff’s office. Thankfully nobody was hurt. No arrests have been made at this point.
North Valleys High School and Alice Smith Elementary School in north Reno were put on a code red lockdown has also resumed normal operations. Reno police, Sparks police, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and School police all responded to the scene.
Tomas Macaluso, Principal of North Valleys High School sent out a recording stating:
“I want to reassure everyone in our North Valleys High School family that we are safe. I know it’s difficult to hear news like this about our school, but it’s important to remember that we hold trainings and drills throughout the year, and those procedures worked smoothly today. Our staff members and students quickly implemented emergency protocols to protect themselves and their peers, and I appreciate the fact that they stayed calm during this incident.” #reno #nevada
