Residents Concerned About Identity Theft
Many followers have messaged us that they are concerned a thief could use their information on a mail-in ballot to commit identity theft. The voters we spoke to say the ballots will display the voter’s name, address, and their signature on the outside of the envelope. Their concern is that that information could be used to steal someone’s identity.
We reached out to the Washoe County Registrar to get their take on the concerns and ask about any examples or security features in place to guarantee against such scammers. We have not yet received an answer.
Sources say ballots were already sent last Friday, without the sample ballots as required by law. They also say they opted out of the vote by mail option, but received one anyway.
For those who are not comfortable with voting by mail for what ever reason, you can drop off your ballot directly at the Registrar of Voters at 1001 E 9th Street and personally deliver it to them on Election Day 6/11/24.
While we wait for an answer from the Registrar’s office, which has been mired in controversy the last several years, we’re curious what others think. Do you have any concerns with voting by mail including possible identity theft? #reno #sparks #washoecounty #nevada 🗳️
