Should a Candidate Running For Re-Election Be Able to Certify Their Own Election?
That is the question being raised by residents of Washoe County. On June 21st, after a lengthy discussion about problems with the election, Commissioner Andriola, decked out in a cowboy hat, was the tie breaking vote in a motion to certify her own election. In her own comments as seen in this video, Andriola even acknowledges the major issues raised with the election, but still voted to approve anyways.
Registered voters we spoke to felt that Commissioner Andriola should have recused herself from certifying the election results, believing her actions to be a conflict of interest. Her vote solidified her own victory. For many in attendance they believe her recusal on the vote would have been appropriate and ethical. Especially since many concerns with the integrity of the election were raised and acknowledged even by Andriola herself.
Do you think that was the right move? Or should Andriola, who has been criticized as being a Republican on paper, but de facto Democrat in action and by campaign funding, have recused herself to help address glaring issues and help restore public trust in the election process? #reno #sparks #washoecounty #nevada
