Racist Incident in Virginia City Goes National, Leads Hot August Nights Organizers to Permanently Ban Perpetrators
Over the weekend Hot August Nights in Virginia City went viral for all the wrong reasons. In this video posted by Ricky Johnson on TikTok, a group of attendees can be seen and heard harassing him and making racist threats, including to references to a “hanging tree”. Johnson was working collecting signatures for a ballot initiative to limit attorney fees in Nevada at the time when the altercation began.
No the organizers of Hot August Nights have revoked the registration of and permanently banned the three White individuals making the racially charged statements to Johnson who is Black. The altercation began when Johnson asked Gary Miller of Minden if he had voted as a way to make his pitch for his petition. The recording begins as the verbal attack was already underway.
Hot August Nights organizers have condemned the actions of Miller’s group along Virginia City and Governor Lombardo. Hot August Nights usually takes place in Reno-Sparks and organizers are now reconsidering whether to extend the event to Virginia City anymore. * This post does not condone or encourage hate or harm to anyone and is used for news and awareness purposes. #virginiacity #reno #sparks #hotaugustnights #classiccar #classiccars
