Gold Ranch Fire Update:
On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, command of the incident will transition to a local Type 3 Incident Management Team, led by Incident Commander Brad Milam. This change ensures the continued effective management of firefighting operations and ongoing support for the community.
Despite challenging red flag conditions yesterday, firefighters made significant progress, achieving 8% containment. Aerial retardant drops were successfully deployed to bolster ground operations. Today, two helicopters will be available to further support these efforts. Additionally, dozer lines have been constructed, and removal of vegetation from nearby housing developments has helped slow the fire’s spread.
Overnight, crews successfully held and secured fire lines, working through winds of 3-7 MPH, with gusts reaching up to 12 MPH. Using over 3,500 feet of hose, firefighters will continue to secure the perimeter and conduct mop-up operations. Today’s forecast predicts temperatures ranging from 75-85°F, with winds shifting from 4-8 MPH upslope to 9-16 MPH from the west, with gusts potentially reaching 30 MPH.
**Fire Behavior**
