NO MORE HOMELESS CAMPING IN WASHOE COUNTY ⛺️
Today the Washoe County Board of County Commissioners approved a new camping ordinance amendment that was brought forth by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.
The newly approved ordinance amends Washoe County Code Chapter 50 (Public Peace, Safety and Morals) and Chapter 70 (Vehicles and Traffic) to ban camping on county-owned public property and public spaces within 1,000 feet of the Truckee River. It also bans fires, propane tanks used for cooking and parking oversized vehicles such as RV’s on public property.
Public comments last over 2 hours with many people making excuses for transients that have overtaken these spaces being addressed leading to the need for the newly amended ordinance. Critics say it’s too harsh and penalizes poverty and homelessness. Supporters say it’s long overdue. #reno #sparks #carsoncity #washoecounty #nevada #homelesscrisis 📸 Nevada Sports Net
