The City of Reno proclaimed September 29th as Master Officer Al Del Vecchio Day.
Al’s spent 28 years as a Patrol Officer or what he referred to as a “Patrolman” and excelled as one of, if not, the best Training Officers our agency has ever experienced. Al’s trainees lead our department and are scattered throughout all ranks and assignments while maintaining the attributes Al and RPD strive for.
In August of 2005, Al was shot in the face while trying to apprehend a suspect in a stolen vehicle. After being shot, Al returned to work without any regrets and his usual enthusiasm to serve his community and protect his fellow officers was always present.
In September of 2016, Al retired from the Reno Police Department. On April 21, 2022, Al passed away after battling brain cancer. Al was a devoted husband, father, loyal friend, and true partner. Al’s victim centric approach, empathy, and hard as nails patrolman attitude made him the ideal Master Officer.
Master Officer Al Del Vecchio’s legacy lives on within the Reno Police Department and the countless victims he helped, as his dedication to justice and unwavering commitment to serving the community continue to inspire both his fellow officers and those whose lives he touched. 📸 Reno PD #reno #nevada #thebiggestlittlecityintheworld
