Car Burglary Turns Into Identity Theft
Per WCSO:
“Lock It, Remove It, Keep It Safe!
While some vehicle burglaries may involve only low-value items, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office takes every case seriously, and offenders can face significant penalties.
In a recent case, an investigation by WCSO deputies and detectives into a vehicle burglary in Washoe Valley led to the arrest of 45-year-old Sharice Paris. In this case, Paris used the victim’s stolen ID to pawn items and, after her arrest, was sentenced to 19-48 months in prison after pleading guilty to identity theft charges related to the burglary.
As we work diligently to investigate and apprehend the suspects in these cases across the region, here are some ways you can help prevent vehicle burglaries:
-Lock your doors and roll up your windows.
-Remove valuables from your vehicle.
-Park in well-lit, crowded areas or in a secured garage.
-Use car alarms or anti-theft devices.
Taking just a moment to secure your belongings can help prevent a costly break-in. Stay vigilant and protect your valuables.
Even if the loss seems minor, we urge all victims of vehicle, residential, or commercial burglary to report the crime by calling our non-emergency line at (775) 785-WCSO. For burglaries in progress, please dial 911 immediately.”
