PSA: Remember when you’re shopping, thieves are too. As the holiday shopping season starts to pick up, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public to stay vigilant about valuables being left in cars. There are a few steps that you can take to discourage would-be thieves from breaking into your car. If you do not need to bring certain valuables with you, leave them at home. Thieves cannot take what you do not have. Though it sounds simple, we encourage everyone to make sure their doors are locked. Many vehicle burglaries happen when people leave their cars unlocked. As you’re out shopping for those holiday treasures, keep packages out of sight and make sure to take them inside once you are home. Removing temptation helps prevent break-ins from happening. Again: Lock it, remove it, don’t lose it!
