Couple Gets Life Sentences for Burglaries
“Defendants in String of Burglaries Sentenced to Prison
6 Homes Across Washoe County Targeted
Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks announces that following a string of residential burglaries in Washoe County, Jacob Cooper and Aisha Bailey have been sentenced to 80 years and 48 years in prison, respectively.
The case began in December of 2022, with RPD officers responding to a report of a burglary. The victim discovered his home had been ransacked and several items were missing, including multiple firearms, cash, and jewelry. Video surveillance from the residential community showed Cooper and Bailey in the area, the night of the crime. Over the next 3 months, officers with RPD, WCSO, and SPD responded to a total of 6 burglaries, all of which included the thefts of firearms, money, and/or jewelry.
On February 13, 2023, SPD detectives noticed a vehicle with stolen license plates that Cooper was known to drive, parked near a resort casino. Detectives found Cooper inside the casino and placed him under arrest. During a search of the car, officers located a gun that had been stolen from one of the victims... Bailey was subsequently arrested driving one of the victim’s stolen cars. WCSO detectives successfully linked the Defendants to the string of residential burglaries committed across Washoe County.
Across all the victims, it’s estimated that more than $156,000 in items and cash were stolen.
Bailey pled guilty to all charges…She was sentenced to 48 years in prison with parole eligibility after 14 years served, a $40,000 fine, and restitution in the amount of $156,716.00.
Cooper was convicted by a jury on all charges (3 counts of Residential Burglary While in Possession of a Firearm, 3 counts of Residential Burglary, 2 counts Possession of a Stolen Firearm, 2 counts Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm). He was sentenced to 80 years in prison with parole eligibility after 27 years served, a $20,000 fine, and restitution in the amount of $156,716.00 (alongside Bailey).” #reno #nevada
