Reno Murderer Sentenced to Life in Prison For Homicide/Dismemberment of Young Woman
Todd Tonnochy was convicted of killing 18 year old Hailey Nieto in August. Today Judge Scott Freeman sentenced the pos to life in prison with the possibility of parole eligibility after a decade. How parole is even possible is a surprise to many considering the fact that he dismembered the young woman to fit in a duffle bag.
For some other odd reason the jury only convicted him of second-degree murder after an eight-day trial despite the claims that Tonnochy, while already incarcerated in 2022 was threatening to kill Nieto, prostitute her and her daughters, while counted down the days until he released to carry out the threats according to a lawsuit by her family against the Washoe County Sheriff.
He was also convicted of several other crimes including concealing evidence, conspiracy to threaten a witness, being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Judge Freeman ordered that Tonnochy serve his sentences consecutively one after another so that he “die in prison.” That statement drew an applause from Nieto’s family and conflict among both sides causing deputies to intervene while the court took a recess.
The family of Nieto plans on pursuing the lawsuit against the Sheriff for failing to protect Hailey from the threats and intervene while Tonnochy was a prisoner. #reno #nevada
